White House to serve more than 2,000 pounds of Gulf Coast seafood

By Christina Wilkie - 12/01/10 08:26 PM ET

President Obama will serve more than 2,000 pounds of Gulf Coast shrimp and seafood to guests at upcoming holiday parties, White House Executive Chef Cris Comerford announced Wednesday.

“Since the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, consumption of Gulf seafood has dropped, which is why we at the White House are so happy to play our part in reminding Americans that Gulf seafood is not only safe — but delicious,” Comerford wrote in a blog post.

The seafood extravaganza will begin Wednesday night with a reception for the scores of volunteers who have helped decorate the White House for the holiday season. Topping the menu will be Gulf shrimp and Florida stone crabs.
