Movie night: Bidens see ‘The Fighter’ in Georgetown

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, were spotted Friday night ducking in to the Georgetown multiplex theater for a showing of “The Fighter,” a film about the life of professional boxer “Irish” Micky Ward. A fellow moviegoer told ITK that the couple took their seats after the lights went down in the theater, ostensibly to avoid making a scene.

Released in December, the R-rated flick stars Mark Wahlberg as Ward and Christian Bale as his younger, drug-addicted brother and part-time trainer, Dicky Eklund, and is set in the working-class town of Lowell, Mass.

The main characters have at least one thing in common with the vice president: strong Irish roots. Biden was raised in Scranton, Pa., in what he has called “a predominantly Irish neighborhood and an overwhelmingly Irish parish.”
