Packers star needles Obama on Super Bowl

Green Bay Packers corner Charles Woodson said President Obama needn’t come see his team play in the Super Bowl — because they’re going to see him in Washington. 

The Packers, fresh off a victory over Obama’s Chicago Bears, are focused on heading to the White House to receive their congratulations from Obama after winning the championship match-up on Feb. 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

“The president don’t want to come watch us at the Super Bowl — guess what?” Woodson said in a post-game speech, video of which was posted on the Packers’ website. “We’re going to see him.”

Obama had said he’d go to the Super Bowl in Dallas if the Bears won. But with the Green Bay win Sunday, it appears as though the trip is off. 

Woodson had a Pro Bowl-level year as the cornerstone of the Packers’ stingy defense. In college, he was the first primarily defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy, during the University of Michigan’s 1997 national championship season.

Woodson broke up the Packers’s meeting with a cheer of “White House!”
