the loss of his father

By Christina Wilkie - 01/24/11 08:21 PM ET

Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.) this week is mourning the loss of his father, Doug McIntyre, who died on Friday in Lumberton, N.C.

Doug McIntyre, 87, was known among his good friends as “Papa Doug,” according to his obituary.

He was a member of the Lumberton City Council from 1971 to 1976, and in 1999 received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from then-Gov. Jim Hunt (D).

An optometrist by day, Doug McIntyre also coached baseball and was an avid gardener.

ITK sends our condolences to
McIntyre and his family.
