New Yorkers want to say ‘I do’ to Rudy

By Christina Wilkie - 02/14/11 08:52 PM ET

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) has been out of office for nearly a decade, but “America’s Mayor” is still the one more New Yorkers want to preside over their weddings than any other.

In a Marist survey released Sunday, 32 percent of Big Apple residents would choose Giuliani to marry them, instead of 27 percent who’d pick current Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I).

Coming in a close third was former Mayor David Dinkins (D), with his predecessor, former mayor and Rep. Ed Koch (D-N.Y.), taking fourth place.

Giuliani polled particularly high (40 percent) in Queens and Staten Island, but took third place among Manhattanites, after Dinkins and Bloomberg.

There’s good news for those who wish Hizzoner would officiate their wedding: Former mayors of New York can still officiate after they’ve left office, as long as a ceremony is held in one of the five boroughs.
