2011 White House Easter Egg hunt could cause déjà vu

By Christina Wilkie - 03/28/11 07:56 PM ET

The White House on Monday “revealed” the official 2011 souvenir Easter Eggs in a press release and accompanying photo. But for those who remember last year’s egg, and press release, “recycled” might be a better choice of word.

The eggs, which are given out at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, will again this year be made of the same hardwood, painted the same pink, yellow, green and purple, and have the president’s and first lady’s signatures on them again, along with a bunny-rabbit logo. The eggs are produced by the National Park Service.

Fittingly, the news came in the form of a 315-word White House press release that was nearly verbatim from last year’s.

But those who looked closely enough would notice two things: This year’s theme is “Get Up and Go!” as opposed to 2010’s “Ready, Set, Go!” and this year’s bunny strikes a new pose.

The 2010 rabbit was shown jogging, prompting critics to suggest that first lady Michelle Obama was turning a candy-themed holiday into an exercise-centric affair. Apparently someone got the message, because this year’s bunny looks to be having a lot more fun jumping in the air.

The White House Easter Egg Roll is scheduled for April 25.
