Warring lunch parties for Huckabee and Daniels

By Christina Wilkie - 05/02/11 07:11 PM ET

It’s a dilemma more commonly associated with socialites than politicians, but this Wednesday, Washington-area Republicans might have a tough choice when it comes to where they spend their lunch hour.

That’s because potential GOP 2012 presidential candidates Mike Huckabee and Mitch Daniels are each headlining a lunch event in Washington at exactly the same time.

Huckabee will be the guest of honor at a fundraiser for the Maryland Republican Party, held at the home of real estate agent Rex Reed in the tony suburb of Potomac. Tickets start at $100 per person and the fun starts at 12:30 p.m.

At the very same moment as guests are pulling up to Reed’s house, across town at the American Enterprise Institute, Daniels will deliver a speech titled “Creating First-Rate Education in Indiana.”

Daniels’s lunch is not a fundraiser, however, and online registration for the event is closed. As for what to expect from the event, the topic might be education, but many of those in the audience will be more interested in learning about the Indiana governor’s personal plans for the future.
