New DNC head puts MSNBC host in awkward spot

By Christina Wilkie - 05/16/11 07:50 PM ET

Many in the media were pleased when press-friendly Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) was tapped to be chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

But it probably gave Dylan Ratigan some pause.

In late 2009, the MSNBC host conducted what he later acknowledged was a rude interview with the Florida Democrat.

In his rant, Ratigan ripped the Democratic healthcare reform bill, saying it would help the insurance industry more than consumers.

After trying to respond several times and being cut off, Wasserman Schultz said, “You could be your own guest.”

Ratigan subsequently apologized, but it’s an open question whether Wasserman Schultz will appear again on his show.

MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines said “she’s not scheduled to appear,” and the DNC did not respond to a request for comment.
