It’s seersucker time, but not for Boehner
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have gone to great lengths this year to stress they are on the same page on a variety of issues, including cutting spending and taxes and, well, just about everything else.
But the Speaker made it clear last week that unlike McConnell, he is no fan of seersucker suits.
During a press briefing last week, Boehner said, “Memorial Day was Monday, and I know it’ll be hot today,” adding that the striped tie he was wearing “is about as much seersucker as I can handle.”
Boehner didn’t mention McConnell by name, but it’s well-known that the Kentucky senator (and many others in the upper chamber) are fond of wearing the white-and-light-blue-striped suits when the weather heats up.
By tradition, senators on both sides of the aisle who are fans of seersuckers (including women) don the suits in early June. The Senate was out last week, so look for the seersuckers this week, when temperatures in Washington are expected to climb into the 90s.
