Sen. Rand Paul not a fan of ‘kicking the can’

By Judy Kurtz - 07/06/11 08:06 PM ET

Note to jars of Campbell’s soup and SpaghettiOs: you have a friend in Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

On a Tuesday appearance on Fox News’s “Your World With Neil Cavuto,” Paul revealed that he’s not happy with the oft-used metaphor “kicking the can.” Here’s what went down:

Chris Cotter (host): “All right, one final thing for you, Sen. Paul. The president did mention this kicking the can down the road.

“I know, over the weekend, some Republicans floated the idea of a mini-deal out there that might give you six to eight months to play with. Are you in favor of that at all, or do you agree with the president in saying it makes no sense to kick the can?”

Paul: “I am voting against the mini-deal, but I’m also voting against using the metaphor of kicking the can down the road. That one, I think, is getting overused a bit.”

Maybe Paul should talk to Sen. Bob. Corker (R-Tenn.) (see above item) about coming up with a cool new catchphrase.
