Sen. Snowe cheers on eponymous softball team

By Judy Kurtz - 07/20/11 06:38 PM ET

There’s apparently no business like “Snowe Business,” or at least no softball team.

The Senate Softball League team from the office of Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) is celebrating a victory, winning its first division championship on Monday. Snowe Business, which is a nod to the senator’s position as ranking member of the Senate Small Business Committee, is undefeated, with an 8-0 record.

In a statement to ITK, Snowe boasted, “As we’ve witnessed over the past decade, New Englanders have a knack for outlasting the competition and racking up sports championships. I am proud my office’s softball team is quickly becoming a part of that tradition.” And the senior senator’s pushing for her aptly named team to go all the way: “While they have yet to claim the ultimate prize, I am confident that Snowe Business is poised to make a serious run at the Senate Softball League trophy this year.”

Snowe Business faces off next against some fellow Mainers: the Maine LobStars, from the office of Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Maybe the winner can also claim the title of Best Pun-Loving New England Team Name.
