Obama rewards staff with burgers

By Judy Kurtz - 08/03/11 07:24 PM ET

With the debt-limit bill finally signed into law, President Obama on Wednesday rewarded his staff with some burgers at Good Stuff Eatery.

The burger joint, created by “Top Chef” alum Spike Mendelsohn, is popular among the Capitol Hill lunch crowd.

Good Stuff’s menu even includes  odes to the commander in chief and first lady — it features a “Prez Obama Burger” (which includes bacon, onion marmalade, Roquefort cheese and horseradish mayo) and a “Michelle Melt Free Range Turkey Burger” (topped with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce and herb garden mayo).

Obama chowed down with staffers who were involved with the debt-ceiling discussions, including Jack Lew, Rob Nabors, Nancy Ann DeParle, Bruce Reed and Gene Sperling.

An ITK spy reports that President Obama ordered a “Farmhouse Cheese” burger, but made an undoubtedly controversial substitution, choosing to top his meat with cheddar instead of American cheese. The president also added caramelized onions.

It’s not the first time one of the Obamas has gone on a burger run. Just a few weeks ago, Michelle Obama was spotted at Shake Shack in Dupont Circle. The president has also gotten his burger fix at Five Guys and Ray’s Hell Burger.
