House Republican narrowly avoids bathroom blooper

By Judy Kurtz - 08/03/11 07:28 PM ET

As he was leaving Monday’s GOP conference meeting on the debt agreement and facing questions about how he would vote on it, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) went to duck into the restroom. There was just one problem: It was the women’s room.

Noticing the mistake-in-the-making, reporters started to warn him, prompting Fortenberry to realize the bathroom blunder before it was too late. He turned around and went into the neighboring men’s room, to reporters’ chuckles.

Soon thereafter, Fortenberry voted yes, hopefully with clean hands.
