DC gets hairy for charities

By Judy Kurtz - 11/08/11 09:31 PM ET

Washington is about to get a whole lot hairier.

The Embassy of Australia Social Club is holding a monthlong charity event dubbed Movember, in which participants start the month clean-shaven, then grow a mustache for 30 days.

Money is raised for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation by sponsoring a mustache grower (or “Mo Bro”) throughout November.

While the Movember movement began in Australia, last year more than 64,000 stateside Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (although we’re not quite sure how the whole facial-hair element works with the ladies) raised more than $7 million.
