Streep coming to DC ahead of Thatcher film premiere

By Judy Kurtz - 11/14/11 07:59 PM ET

Before she debuts as “The Iron Lady” on  the big screen, Meryl Streep is making a pit stop in Washington.

The Academy Award-winning actress is set to speak at Wednesday’s “de Pizan Honors,” held by the National Women’s History Museum. The gala event at the Ronald Reagan Building honors the contributions of women from the past and present.

Streep just revealed the poster for her upcoming film, “The Iron Lady,” in London on Monday. The Hollywood star plays Britain’s first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, in the flick, which opens in theaters Dec. 30.
