Redskins quarterback a Mitt Romney fan?

By Judy Kurtz - 11/16/11 08:43 PM ET

Add another reason to the list of why left-leaning Washingtonians might not be fans of one of their football team’s quarterbacks: Someone with the name of John Beck donated to GOP contender Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.

According to records on OpenSecrets.org, John D. Beck doled out $200 on Sept. 21 of this year to the former Massachusetts governor’s campaign. The donor’s profession is listed as “Miami Dolphins/Pro Athlete.”

John Dalton Beck started his professional football career with the Dolphins before signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. He was traded to the Redskins in 2010, but didn’t start until QB Rex Grossman was demoted. Starting Beck didn’t work, as he didn’t win a game. Grossman has since reclaimed the No. 1 spot for the 3-6 team, which has lost five straight.

While Beck’s Romney donation might not raise eyebrows elsewhere, it could draw a penalty from devoted fans of the perpetually struggling hometown team. In the 2008 presidential election, 93 percent of voters in the District went for Barack Obama.
