Sen. Paul and Rep. West cut their own hair

By Judy Kurtz - 12/14/11 08:51 PM ET

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) are a cut above their colleagues in Congress. That’s because both of the lawmakers cut their own locks.

The wavy-haired senator confirmed to ITK that he does, indeed, do his own ’do. While he was shy with any hairy details of how he chops his curly follicles, an aide said Paul is his own barber more out of necessity and a lack of time than anything else. The staffer points out that Paul does get his hair professionally trimmed … sometimes.

West also revealed that he slices his own head of hair himself, making the hair-raising claim while performing a stand-up comedy routine for charity late last month.

We hear West credits his self-styling tendencies to his more than 20 years of active-duty service in the U.S. Army. An aide says the congressman uses clippers for the task and doesn’t think much about cutting his own hair, as he’s done it “most of his life.”
