Comic wishes Obama was tougher, says president ‘making the black man look bad’

By Judy Kurtz - 01/18/12 08:57 PM ET

Comedian D.L. Hughley confesses that while he’s fond of President Obama, he wants the commander in chief to be a little more macho.

“I like Obama, but I wish he was tougher,” Hughley said. “He’s making the black man look bad. Nobody is scared of him. If I ran into him in a dark alley, I’d say, ‘What are you going to do, give a speech or something?’”

In an interview with the Hartford Courant, the stand-up comic and actor, who hosted a short-lived political-comedy show on CNN, doesn’t seem any happier with the crop of GOP White House hopefuls.

Hughley, who plans to release a book this summer, called the Republican presidential debates his “favorite reality show,” saying of the candidates, “It’s amazing how out of touch they are with human beings, but people are so connected to their ideology that they actually cheer for the s--t they say.”
