Lieberman can’t wait to try Dirksen’s new kosher nosh

By Judy Kurtz - 01/25/12 09:29 PM ET

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) no longer has to get by on granola bars.

Following a push from a former congressional intern, after a years-long absence, kosher food is once again among the available chow in the Dirksen Senate Office Building cafeteria.

The eatery is now reportedly offering kosher meals, including sandwiches and salads, alongside its other fare as part of a trial run.

As of Tuesday, Lieberman, who adheres to a kosher diet as an Orthodox Jew, hadn’t yet had a chance to try out the new nosh.

The retiring lawmaker, who has served in the upper chamber since 1989, says until now, he’s subsisted on a limited number of goodies: “I have a steady supply of granola bars, and Cliff bars, and salads. A lot of salads.”
