Senators make boozy Super Bowl bet

By Judy Kurtz - 02/01/12 07:26 PM ET

Now here’s a wager the rest of the Senate can get behind — a Super Bowl bet that, whatever the outcome, requires the loser to buy booze for all 99 of his or her congressional colleagues in the upper chamber. Score!

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced Tuesday on Twitter that they’re putting their respective states’ brews behind their pigskin predictions.

The loser will buy beers from the winner’s home state for the entire Senate. Shaheen, a New England Patriots fan, said in a news release, “This Sunday, the only thing sweeter than the taste of craft beer brewed in the Granite State will be the taste of victory when the Patriots beat the Giants.”

Diehard New York Giants fan Schumer countered, “When Big Blue brings Tom Brady and Bill Belichick to their knees, the entire U.S. Senate will understand why we love New York brew. Go Giants!”
