‘Idol’ contestant not so sure about Santorum

By Judy Kurtz - 04/30/12 07:51 PM ET

Colton Dixon can sing his socks off, but he hasn’t got a clue which presidential candidate’s tune he’ll be singing come November.

The “American Idol” contestant, who was booted from the Fox singing competition less than two weeks ago, was all smiles as he attended the Yahoo News/ABC News pre-party ahead of Saturday’s Correspondents’ dinner.

But the 20-year-old rocker admits he’s out of touch when it comes to politics. When we asked if he was a fan of former Republican White House hopeful Rick Santorum, — who was standing only a few feet away from him — Dixon shrugged, saying he’s been living in an  “ ‘Idol’ bubble.”

The young entertainer, who attended the dinner as a guest of the Christian Broadcasting Network, said he plans to brush up on his political news now that he’s not competing for viewers’ support each week, explaining, “The only votes I cared about were ‘Idol’ ones.”
