Congressman skips church for KFC

By Russell Berman and Judy Kurtz - 06/20/12 06:48 PM ET

Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) sure does love his KFC.

With talks over a long-stalled highway bill coming to a head, the top Republican on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee was asked Tuesday whether a meeting convened by Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) marked a “come-to-Jesus moment” for the negotiations.

“I must admit I did not go to church this Sunday,” Mica, who is Episcopalian, replied. “I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken, and it was delicious. It was my choice.”

Mica’s chief of staff, Wiley Deck, confirms to ITK that while his boss also enjoys pasta, he is indeed a KFC fanatic. Wiley says the congressman’s particularly fond of Col. Sanders’s dark-meat chicken and leg and thigh pieces.
