Sen. Ben Nelson meets Ben Nelson (the Senate intern)

Ben Nelson, say hi to Ben Nelson.

Sen. Ben Nelson’s staffers were surely seeing double last week (at least in name) as the Nebraska Democrat happily agreed to meet with a young man who just happens to have the same name as the retiring lawmaker.

Turns out the “other” Ben Nelson didn’t have to trek too far to get a chance to meet his same-named Senate counterpart after requesting a photo with the politician.

Nelson 2.0 simply had to take a quick walk from the Dirksen digs of Sen. Nelson’s office in Hart for the get-together.

The Nelson duo smiled for photos together, and the 71-year-old version even encouraged his new, identically monikered pal to pose for a few snapshots at his desk.

Even though Nelson announced last year that he’s not seeking a third term come November, we might not have heard the last of Ben Nelson. We hear Ben Nelson — the intern, that is — has his own ambitions to run for political office one day.
