Carney takes son to sleepaway camp

By Judy Kurtz - 08/01/12 06:56 PM ET

Kids — they grow up so fast.

Just ask White House press secretary Jay Carney, who revealed Tuesday that he just shipped one of his two kids off to camp.

“I took my son to his first overnight camp yesterday. And it’s a big moment, you know. You say goodbye,” Carney said during a press briefing, when asked about his 10-year-old son’s summer adventure.

But Carney doesn’t seem to be losing sleep about sleepaway camp. He said to laughter from journos, “He’s very excited. I’m sure he’s having a great time. And I’m not at all worried about it.”

While there’s no word on just how long the younger Carney will be at camp, the family plans on staying in close contact. When another reporter made mention of the Grammy Award-winning classic camp song, “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp),” Carney added, “Yeah. He’s supposed to write every day.”
