Gov. O’Malley expects ‘angry Don Rickles keynote’ from Christie

By Russell Berman - 08/28/12 01:04 PM ET

TAMPA, Fla. – Count Gov. Martin O’Malley (Md.) as one Democrat skeptical that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will knock his keynote Republican convention speech out of the park on Tuesday night.

Appearing at a Democratic press event in Tampa, the Maryland governor predicted Christie would give “an angry Don Rickles keynote.”

The two East Coast governors have emerged as rivals in the last year, frequently taking shots at each other. In February, Christie said O’Malley was “not that smart, not that good.” O’Malley responded then by comparing Christie to Rickles, the famously cantankerous comedian.
