Darrell Hammond: Romney is better for comedians

By Judy Kurtz - 09/10/12 06:58 PM ET

In terms of comedy, Darrell Hammond is rooting for Mitt Romney.

The “Saturday Night Live” alum, known for his dead-on impression of former President Bill Clinton, says the Republican presidential nominee winning the election would be a whole lot better for “SNL” performers: “As long as Obama wears the ‘nice guy, works hard, does well’ label, he’s not impeachable.”

But even constantly portraying the former Massachusetts governor might be a challenge to the NBC show’s seasoned comedians. “As for Mitt, you have to find out something we don’t know about him. He’s so controlled. He seems to be someone out of a catalog. He needs to have a day’s worth of Heineken,” says the funnyman.

“Maybe Romney will have something weird come out in the next couple of months — something that makes him seem more human,” added Hammond.
