'Saturday Night Live' getting new Obama
Less than two months out from the election, “Saturday Night Live” is swapping one “President Obama” for another.
The NBC show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, tells The New York Times that comic Jay Pharoah will play the commander in chief when the new season begins this weekend.
“I just thought it might be time to shake it up,” Michaels said in an interview with the paper.
Pharoah is known for his spot-on impressions of actors Denzel Washington and Eddie Murphy.
Fellow “SNL” comedian Fred Armisen will still continue as a cast member of the sketch-comedy show, but will no longer impersonate the president. Michaels called Armisen “the backbone of the show now.”
