Aerosmith’s Joe Perry calls himself a “Republican from the old school,” and says he “got a lot of s--t" for supporting Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) during his 2008 presidential bid.
In an interview with the website NoiseCreep.com, the “Walk This Way” guitarist contends things have changed in the last four years: “There’s an awful lot of people out there in L.A. that were jumping up and down for Obama that aren’t right now. It’s just what it is.”
Perry, 62, says while he’s a Republican because he was taught “You can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough at it and you earn your place,” one of his favorite commanders in chief was from one of America’s most famous Democratic dynasties.
“My favorite president was actually John Kennedy,” says Perry, “Oh, and Eisenhower. I don’t think we’ve had anyone like those guys since Reagan, but you need somebody you can believe in.”
But the musician seems perplexed by this generation’s politicians: “Today they say one thing one day, and another thing another day. You can’t figure these guys out.”
