Who goes to bed first: Michelle Obama or her children?

By Judy Kurtz - 09/24/12 11:43 AM ET

Michelle Obama could have an earlier bedtime than her school-age children, according to President Obama.

In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Obama said that sometimes the first lady hits the sack ahead of Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14.

Asked by correspondent Steve Kroft when he has time to be alone with his own thoughts, Obama blew his wife’s cover about how early she’s under the covers, replying, “Well, I’m a night guy as it is. And so, Michelle usually goes to bed about 9:30. She’s an early bird, maybe 10:00. The girls go to bed around 10:00.”

The president continued, “And so I've got those hours between 10:00 and 1:00 in the morning, let's say, where not only do I do some work, but I do some reading, I do some writing.”
