Ryan a no-show at House P90X workout

By Molly K. Hooper - 09/25/12 12:14 PM ET

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan disappointed his former colleagues last week by not showing up at the House gym to lead a P90X workout.

Ryan spoke to the conference later that morning and showed up for the first vote, but the Wisconsin lawmaker decided to work out at his hotel rather than travel to his old workout stomping grounds.

“Lousy guy,” joked Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who was excited for Ryan’s appearance on Capitol Hill, though Chaffetz noted “he didn’t come do P90X with us — he had his brother in town, so he stayed and did it in the hotel.”

Coincidentally, P90X founder Tony Horton was also in D.C. on Thursday.

He’s put lawmakers through the paces of his grueling workout in the past, but like Ryan, he didn’t make it to the House gym on Friday.

Horton reportedly said that he welcomed the newfound interest in his Beachbody workout, and that he has been surprised by the intense interest in the cross-training workout since Ryan joined the GOP ticket.

Horton hasn’t exactly returned the favor to Ryan. According to Federal Election Commission reports, Horton has contributed thousands of dollars to President Obama’s campaign over the past few years.
