Weiner proves he’s a ‘stud’

By Christina Wilkie - 10/28/09 05:28 PM ET

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y) certainly doesn’t look like a football player, but he came up big on Tuesday night.

The skinny lawmaker made a critical interception in overtime during the Longest Yard “Cops vs. Congress” charity flag football game at the D.C. Armory. As a result of his deft catch, the congressional team took possession of the ball and scored, beating their opponents, members of the U.S. Capitol Police, for the first time in the history of the contest.

Weiner was jacked after his big play, telling ITK, “I’ll replay the moment [of the interception] every night for the rest of my life.”

Asked what it was like to play alongside former National Football League professionals — who were playing in the game — Weiner said he felt just like he had as a youngster, playing football with much bigger kids.

“I mean, I was a 120-pound kid from Brooklyn who grew up playing a lot of football,” he explained.

Weiner put his hands up in mock triumph, saying, “I’ve been waiting my whole life to show people that I’m a stud, and here’s my proof!”

Weiner wasn’t the only one who thought he played a great game: On Wednesday, team “coach” Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) took to the House floor to praise the interception by “Mad Dog” Weiner.
