Huckabee tells DeLay that Pelosi should be his new dance partner

2008 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee put former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) on the spot this weekend by proposing that he ask Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to do the bipartisan box-step on “Dancing with the Stars.”

During an interview on Fox’s “Huckabee,” the former Arkansas governor told DeLay, “I’ve got an idea. You need to ask Nancy Pelosi to join you on the finale of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ ”

Rather than brush off the suggestion of dancing with one of his political enemies, a laughing DeLay replied, “There you go. That’s not a bad idea!”

Pelosi’s signature pastel suits bear little resemblance to the flashy costumes worn by contestants on the hit show. But anyone who’s watched the Speaker whip a tight vote in the House knows that she has plenty of moves.

But the chances of it actually happening appear dim. Neither Pelosi’s nor Delay’s spokesmen wanted to talk about it on Monday.

During his interview with Huckabee, DeLay was sporting a boot from the injuries he sustained while training for “Dancing with the Stars.” Citing stress fractures in both feet, DeLay withdrew from the show earlier this month.
