Gregg not on speed dial at the White House

As debate in the Senate over healthcare heats up next week, there’s one GOP lawmaker who’s not sitting at home waiting for a phone call from President Barack Obama: Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), Obama’s one-time pick for Commerce secretary.

Gregg initially accepted the nomination in February, but later reconsidered because he could not support certain administration policies. The White House was ticked off, and accused Gregg of seeking out the nomination and then reneging on his word.

So when Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren asked him on Tuesday whether the president was “working the Senate members,” Gregg laughed and said, “Not me.”

Van Susteren agreed, “I don’t think he will be calling you.”

“I haven’t been on phone dial list for a while,” Gregg quipped.
