Salahis asked wedding guests to pay up

By Christina Wilkie - 12/02/09 08:18 PM ET

Tareq and Michaele Salahi, the alleged crashers at a White House state dinner last Tuesday, held a lavish wedding in 2003, but according to a guest who attended, the weeklong celebration wasn’t as gracious as it looks on paper.

“Every part of the wedding cost [guests] a fee, [except for] the wedding itself,” the guest told ITK.

The wedding week program was printed in the wedding program, and included equine adventures, special dinners and yacht trips. “We had to pay for all of those, separately,” said a guest, who spoke to ITK on the condition of anonymity.

“Once we replied, we got all the prices in an e-mail,” said the guest, “and you didn’t want to back out because of cost, after you’d said yes, but we were shocked. We’d never seen that before.”

Of course, weddings are expensive — and weeklong weddings are rare and much more expensive.

The Salahis did not respond to a request for comment.
