Some congressional staffers get snow days; others are told they should report for duty

The record snowfall meant that many congressional staffers had a snow day on Monday. But not all of them.
Some Capitol Hill offices sent out e-mails on Sunday evening saying they would be closed the following day. That translated into more celebrating (and a few more rounds) during Super Bowl gatherings from Adams Morgan to Eastern Market.
But not all congressional aides were so lucky. One Democratic senator (whose identity ITK agreed not to reveal) made his entire team come in Monday because he had an important meeting. And his staffers were bummed when they read the bad news on their BlackBerrys — especially the senior legislative aide who had a shot of whiskey waiting for him. Wisely, he decided to take a pass.
Among those offices that were open Monday, there was a sense of having won a competition, apparent by the press secretaries who called ITK just to say their offices were open and how empty neighboring offices were.
