Meet the Lawmaker

By Karissa Marcum - 06/05/06 08:00 PM ET

Rep. Bob Beauprez (R-Colo.)
Residence: Arvada
Significant other: Wife Claudia
Age: 57

What is your guilty pleasure?
Rep. Beauprez: I don’t have any fancy vices. I guess every once in a while I’ll OD on ice cream. I eat down to the bottom.

What kind?
Rep. Beauprez: Vanilla, always vanilla.

What’s the last book you read?
Rep. Beauprez: I just finished Dino Rossi’s book Lessons in Leadership, Business, Politics and Life.

Do you attend high school and college reunions?
Rep. Beauprez: Yeah. I’ve got my 40th high school reunion coming up.

Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket?
Rep. Beauprez: [Laughter.] No, thankfully, I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket. I very rarely drive, trying to be safe.

You’re not a safe driver?
Rep. Beauprez: No. It’s because I’ve got so much going on in my head. My cell phone and stuff like that.

What is your favorite band?
Rep. Beauprez: Beatles. Forever the Beatles.

What is the strangest constituent request you’ve ever received?
Rep. Beauprez: It always astounds me how people just assume that if they give you something you can give it to the president.

What do they give you?
Rep. Beauprez: One guy gave me a gun that he made and asked me to give it to President Bush, or they knit you something.

Has God ever spoken to you?
Rep. Beauprez: Yeah, I believe so. I visited the Holy Land in 1997 as well as the Garden of Gethsemane. I had the most incredible experience of my life.

Are you morally opposed to premarital sex?
Rep. Beauprez: The better choice is abstinence for a lot of reasons.
