Will you ever run for Senate?
No. I’ve been asked to run for the Senate several times. There’s a disease in politics, that you get elected to almost any office and the next day you want a higher office. I’ve never been hit with that disease.
What is the worst job you’ve ever had?
I was a bag boy at the A&P, a salesman for Sears. I was a reporter … a lawyer and a judge. I loved every job at the time I’ve had it. Doesn’t mean I’d want to go back and be a bag boy at the A&P.

What is your favorite political TV show?
Well, it’s terrible, but I’m a C-SPAN junkie. I used to watch “Inside Politics,” but that doesn’t exist anymore. My favorite show of all time is “Andy Griffith.”
Which actor would you choose to play you in a movie?
I can assure you that there’s no actor who would want to play me. I have a face made for radio. Years ago, when I was younger, people told me I looked like John Boy on the Waltons. [FYI: the actor who played John Boy is Richard Thomas.]
What is your proudest moment?
The birth of my kids and now, my grandkids. In the last couple years I’ve been hit with the two cutest grandkids in the history of the world.
What is your favorite dessert?
Strawberry shortcake or just vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. I love everything that’s fattening.
