Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), 6th district

By Kelly McCormack - 05/07/07 03:23 PM ET
What is your favorite thing about Congress?
The sense that you’re spending your life’s work on a meaningful cause.

What’s your least favorite thing?

The no-cigar rule. The cigar ban is not big with me.

What’s your favorite place in the world?
Castle Island, South Boston. It’s right on the ocean and it’s where I asked my wife to marry me.

Have you ever had a near-death experience?
Sort of. I was an ironworker for 20 years; I had a couple of falls. I also gave 60 percent of my liver to my brother-in-law about five years ago. Being Irish, I didn’t know we were allowed to donate our liver.

Do you believe in premarital sex?

Not anymore, now that I’m married.

Which member of Congress would you most want to be stuck on an island with?

[Rep.] Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii). Then it would be Hawaii, right?

What was your dream job as a child?

Playing for the Red Sox. I keep waiting for them to call …

Who is your favorite Red Sox player?
[David] Ortiz.

What five people (dead or alive) would you have dinner with if given the chance?
My colleagues from Congress: [Reps. Michael] Capuano (D-Mass.), [Bill] Pascrell (D-N.J.), [Jim] Langevin (D-R.I.), [John] Tierney (D-Mass.) and [Todd] Platts (R-Pa.).
