Meet the Lawmaker: Rep. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.), 2nd District

By Kris Kitto - 01/13/09 02:08 PM ET

What are the best and worst things about Washington?
The best thing is all the interesting people you meet and the incredible sights in Washington. The best thing about my job is being able to make a positive difference in the country.

The worst thing is all the traffic lights and the traffic, especially when I’m in a mad dash to get out to [Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport].

What did you want to be when you were young?
Police officer or FBI agent. I planned to do both when I was a police cadet as a teenager in the Explorer Scouts program.

If you weren’t yourself, which lawmaker would you prefer to be?
I would say Franklin Delano Roosevelt, because then I would’ve been the first guy in a wheelchair to be president.

My favorite place in the whole world is …
Somewhere warm.

What has been your biggest political mistake?
As soon as my mom lets me know I made one, I’ll get back to you.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Sweets. I love chocolate.

What’s your favorite musician or musical group?
U2 — Bono.
