Rep. Becerra shares the troubles with aging
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rep. Xavier Becerra’s getting older. And he’s not afraid to tell you about it.
The 54-year-old congressman embraced the aging process with what some might term an overshare on Wednesday morning, after noting his full head of hair might fool people about his age.
“I had my first colonoscopy,” Becerra (D-Calif.) told the audience at a healthcare event hosted by Families USA and the Service Employees International Union. “I get my AARP letters.”
Becerra made the comments as he was casting Democrats as protectors of entitlement programs that help older Americans, such as Medicare and Social Security.
With House Republicans calling for a dramatic overhaul of Medicare, Becerra also noted that he’s getting close to the age — 55 — where all current benefits would be protected under the GOP's proposed plan.
