On Tuesday, three Vietnam veterans: U.S. Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Melvin Morris, U.S. Army Specialist Four (Ret.) Santiago J. Erevia, and U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (Ret) Jose Rodela, traveled to Washington, D.C., to receive the Medal of Honor from President Obama at the White House.
The three men were the only living recipients from a group of 24 soldiers who had previously been passed over because they were ethnic or religious minorities. The families representing the 21 deceased honorees accepted the awards posthumously.
