McCain seeks to block FCC rules

By Kim Hart - 10/22/09 12:13 PM ET

Just as the FCC was voting to go forward with a proceeding to consider net neutrality regulations, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) introduced legistion--The Internet Freedom Act of 2009--that would block the agency from enacting such rules.

"This government takeover of the Internet will stifle innovation, in turn slowing our economic turnaround and further depressing an already anemic job market.  Outside of health care, the technology industry is the nation’s fastest growing job market," said a press release from McCain's office. The release also said wireless carriers have invested $100 billion in network infrastructure and developmeng over the past three years, leading to faster networks, more competitors and lower prices than any other country.

“Keeping businesses free from oppressive regulations is the best stimulus for the current economy," McCain said

Government takeover of the internet? LOL Mccain. This is why you are not president. You pander to big corp. and screw the consumer everytime. These regulations are to protect consumers from Comcast making decision against their usage which they pay a premium for. Go call Sarah, she needs a job.BY bob on 10/22/2009 at 14:30
Wow Bob. Do you even know what you're talking about? What do consumers need protection from? I've never met anyone who has had problems accessing the internet. It really isn't that expensive. I really don't understand how consumers are getting 'screwed' by big internet providers. I also don't even know why I'm wasting my time trying to challenge someone who is clearly just a drone wanting to be enslaved by government. I guess I'm just bored.BY Jim on 10/22/2009 at 14:56
Wow Jim. Do you have even the first clue about what you're talking about? The problem isn't about accessing the Internet. It's about who controls what gets treated in what way on the Internet. Do we want different classes of transmission for different sources of content? That's what the big telecoms want, so they can favor their own offerings. If you're bored, try reading a book. And forget that nonsense about being enslaved by government. Your arrested development is showing.BY Paul on 10/22/2009 at 16:04
