Christian leader applauds Trump attack tweets: He's 'willing to speak his mind'

The president of Liberty University on Sunday defended President Trump's tweets going after his opponents.

"The left is melting down," Jerry Falwell Jr., a Trump supporter, said during an interview on Fox News.

"It's incredible to watch how they still haven't gotten over how Donald TrumpDonald TrumpTrump hits reset button on messaging Trump Jr., Manafort still haven't agreed to testify before Senate panel House Dem launches effort to ban gov funds from going to Trump properties MORE won and when he hits them back on Twitter, I actually appreciate that."

Falwell continued to praise Trump for his leadership.

"We're finally getting back to a bold leader who's willing to speak his mind," he said.

Trump delivered the first commencement speech of his presidency at Liberty in May. Falwell, son of conservative activist Jerry Falwell, has called Trump a "dream president" for evangelicals, despite divided support among Christians.

Trump in recent days has escalated his attacks on the media.

Last week, he blasted the co-hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," targeting Mika Brzezinski's appearance. On Sunday, the president chided CNN, tweeting out a modified video showing him body-slamming CNN at a wrestling match.

The president and his aides have defended his social media habits, saying Twitter is a way for him to get his message out without having to go through the mainstream media.
