"My son, Donald, will be interviewed by [Sean Hannity] tonight at 10:00 P.M. He is a great person who loves our country!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

The younger Trump made a series of emails public on Twitter Tuesday detailing his conversation with a trusted intermediary who set up the meeting with the attorney.

In the communications, Trump Jr. was told that the promised information was "part of Russia and its government's support for" his father.

Trump Jr. defended his meeting with the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, saying that he thought he was being offered simple opposition research and that she ultimately did not give him compromising information about Clinton. 

Trump Jr. also insisted in an interview on Fox News on Tuesday that he never told his father about his meeting, because there was "nothing to tell."

President Trump has remained relatively quiet on the matter. In a statement through White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday, Trump said: "My son is a high-quality person and I applaud his transparency.”
