Chelsea Clinton on Tuesday thanked the White House residence staff for their role in keeping the presidential home running after a news report said President Trump has been calling it a "dump."

"Thank you to all the White House ushers, butlers, maids, chefs, florists, gardeners, plumbers, engineers & curators for all you do every day," Clinton tweeted in defense of her former home.

Sports Illustrated reported Tuesday that the president told patrons of his Bedminster golf club that the presidential residence is "a real dump" in an effort to explain his frequent visits.

The magazine reports that the president felt comfortable expressing such views because he tends to be "unguarded among the people who pay for their proximity to him."
