A police officer escorting President Trump's motorcade Wednesday was injured when his motorcycle crashed, according to the White House.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer, identified as Robert Turner, was transported to nearby Methodist Hospital. The officer suffered a broken ankle and possible contusion.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, according to a reporter riding in the motorcade.
Trump was traveling to the airport to return to Washington from a tax speech in Indianapolis. The president's limousine did not appear to be involved in the crash.

Upon arrival at Indianapolis International Airport, Trump spoke with a group of motorcycle officers on the tarmac and expressed his concern for the injured officer.
Trump spoke to Turner by phone during his flight on Air Force One, the White House said. The president checked on his condition, expressed his gratitude for his service and wished him well in his recovery.
