Trump hits Democrats on border security: They ‘don’t care about safety for U.S.A.’

President Trump in an early morning tweet on Tuesday slammed Democrats as the immigration debate heats up, saying they “don’t want secure borders” and “don’t care about safety for U.S.A.”

“The problem with agreeing to a policy on immigration is that the Democrats don't want secure borders, they don't care about safety for U.S.A.,” the president said.

His tweet comes after the White House issued hard-line enforcement demands late Sunday that have raised questions about the prospects of a deal to protect hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the country illegally who are protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an interview on Monday wouldn't rule out withholding support for end-of-the-year budget bills — and risk a government shutdown — if Trump and Republicans don’t agree to a fix for DACA recipients.

“We’re not at that place yet,” she told The Washington Post. “Right now, we’re trying to get Republicans to vote on what we believe.”
