A CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds 54 percent of respondents think Trump will lose his campaign for reelection in 2020.

Just 40 percent of Americans expect Trump will win reelection in 2020.

The numbers are similar to the percentage who expected former President Obama would win reelection at the same point during his first term in the White House, according to CNN.

A large majority of Republicans, 79 percent, say they think Trump will win reelection in 2020. Eighty-seven percent of Democrats say they don't expect that Trump will win another term.

The poll also finds that three-quarters of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents think their party should nominate Trump again in 2020. Just 20 percent think the Republican Party should nominate a different candidate in 2020.

The poll was conducted from March 22 to 25 among 1,014 adults. The margin of error is 3.7 percentage points.

Trump earlier this year announced his plans to seek reelection in 2020.

He also announced the appointment of former digital adviser Brad Parscale — who is spearheading a pro-Trump outside group called America First Policies — as his campaign adviser.

Trump has repeatedly talked about being president for eight years, and filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission in January of last year for his reelection committee — the same month he was inaugurated.
