Steve Pearce gave up his House seat in 2008 to run for the Senate, but he lost the general election to Democrat Tom Udall.

In 2010, Pearce ran for his old House seat, defeating Democrat Harry Teague. He was first elected to the House in 2002, replacing the retiring Republican Joe Skeen.

Pearce served on the House Homeland Security Committee and chaired the National Parks Subcommittee on Capitol Hill last time he was in Washington.

With his wife, Cynthia, Pearce owned and operated Lea Fishing Tools, an oilfield services firm.
