Biden cancels Ohio and Pennsylvania events

By Mario Trujillo - 10/29/12 05:08 PM ET

Vice President Biden canceled events Tuesday in Ohio and Thursday in Pennsylvania out of deference to Hurricane Sandy, the latest in an abundance of campaign cancellations throughout the day.

“This change in schedule is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm,” the Obama campaign said in a statement.

The announcement came shortly after Biden finished a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio.

Obama canceled a Florida event Monday morning and events Tuesday in order to monitor the storm from Washington. Shortly after, the Mitt Romney campaign also scrapped events for late Monday and all of Tuesday.

Both campaigns canceled events in New Hampshire and Virginia slated for the weekend, saying they did not want to divert emergency personnel from preparations for the looming storm.
